*Sorry, my pictures are out of order. I got really frustrated with the placement of the pictures and finally decided to just let the chips fall where they may ;-)

I got inspired by this recipe: https://www.youtube.com/user/todderman#p/u/23/hz4jSM8D5o4 Chili's Molten Chocolate Cake!
However, I wasn't interested in using "fake" stuff, like using Smucker's Magic Shell. I wanted to see if I could find a way to make Magic Shell from scratch without fake ingredients. So I Googled "How to make Magic Shell". Turns out there are tons of recipes! I didn't know that Magic Shell could be made at home! The recipes I relied on can be found here: http://www.eatthelove.com/2011/03/wordless-recipe-how-to-make-own-ice-cream-magic-chocolate-hard-shell/ and here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Homemade-Magic-Shell-Recipe/ and here: http://www.browniepointsblog.com/2008/03/28/make-your-own-junk-food-homemade-magic-shell/ I followed the Brownie Points Blog more closely.
Then I found this product at my local Giant grocery store:
| Giant Simply Enjoy Molten Chocolate Lava Cake |
That was earlier this week. Today I decided to go to my local Whole Foods Market and pick up coconut oil, chocolate chips and chocolate.
Then I proceeded to start making the stuff. I preheated my little toaster oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
I took out my double boiler and put some water in the bottom boiler. I then put in 1 cup of coconut oil in the top boiler and put it on top of the bottom boiler. I put in the whole bag of chocolate chips. The ratio of coconut oil to chocolate is 1:1.5. I noticed that I ran out of the chocolate chips. Oops. I then decided to put in about 1/3 to 1/2 of the Scharffen Berger bar ;-) Sometimes it pays off to have extra chocolate on hand! Also shows you that not all cooks and bakers are perfect! I melted the coconut and chocolate together.
I put some vanilla ice cream in a bowl for my son and put on some magic shell. My son loved the magic shell! He said he could taste the coconut, though. Funny, because I got him to taste something new and he discovered that he liked it! Funny that he picked up on the coconut flavor. How would he know that it was coconut? At least he liked it.
My next step now is to figure out how to make a molten chocolate cake. My goal is to make everything from scratch eventually. Now I've figured out how to make Magic Shell from scratch. I've also figured out how to make my own coconut ice cream. I didn't use coconut ice cream this time, sorry.
Google recipes for molten chocolate cake. It's pretty easy. I think there's a good one on epicurious.
