A few days ago, I saw this meat burger alternative at Trader Joe's. I normally don't buy meat burger alternatives because I cannot have soy. But I found a box of Trader Joe's Vegetable Masala Burger. I read the labels and I didn't see soy on it anywhere, so down into the cart it went!
We finally had the burgers tonight. Wow, so yummy! We grilled them on the George Foreman grill. I stir-fried some cauliflower florets in some garam masala and butter (I didn't have a neutral oil in the house; only olive oil - can't use olive oil on cauliflower!). I also whipped up some raita, the Indian cucumber sauce. Most recipes for raita called for yogurt, which I did not have! But I figured I could substitute the yogurt with sour cream. So I used sour cream. I also used 1/2 of a hothouse English cucumber, diced that finely and put that into the sour cream. I added turmeric, cumin, cilantro, ginger, salt and pepper into the cucumber-sour cream mixture. Very good.
Semi-homemade! See, I didn't make the burgers from scratch, but I made everything else from scratch.
My husband opted for a hamburger bun for his Indian burger. I went bun-less. My husband also added some sriracha to his burger. Very good, he thought.
Definitely will buy the Vegetable Masala burgers again!
